Fair Food: A Simple Christmas Cocktail

I love discovering new ethically made products that I can incorporate into my cooking and baking for the holidays. It's safe to say that I probably spend the most money on ingredients for homemade drinks, desserts, and dishes than I do during any other month of the year between preparing food for family gatherings and parties and making all of Andrew's and my favorite Christmas and birthday treats (yes, we're both December babies, just a day apart!) I figure as long as I'm spending money, why not seek out fair trade, ethical, and locally made ingredients to support!

Earlier this year I discovered that my own dear Minnesota has produced a great local brand, Prairie Organics, that makes delightfully sustainable and tasty vodka and gin. Gin in the base for this Christmas-y cocktail that tastes like sugar and spice and pine trees- enjoy!

1 1/2 oz Prairie Organics Gin (made on three family farms in Minnesota!)

1/8 cup simple syrup (plain or cranberry)

1/3 bottle of chilled Maine Root fair trade ginger beer

Candied Cranberries (how to make here

Rosemary Sprigs

Prepare candied cranberries the night before you plan to serve the cocktails.

Combine gin, simple syrup, and chilled ginger beer.

Garnish with a sprig of rosemary and candied cranberries!
